A lot of people have been talking about Baby Botox recently in Mallorca as if it were something new, but it is actually the same anti-wrinkle procedure that we, as cosmetic doctors, have been applying for years to prevent the appearance of the dreaded lines of expression.
What is Baby Botox?
It consists of the application of very low doses of botulinum toxin in the areas of the face where lines of expression are likely to form. In other words, we are going to continue injecting Botox into the muscles as we have always done, but we will do so in patients in which these lines have not yet formed. We are seeking to prevent these lines from appearing rather than eliminating them. That is why we apply lower quantities than usual as young muscles are not as active as in those people who already have lines of expression.
Who is it for?
Baby Botox is intended for younger patients who are looking for prevention. As we have already mentioned, these would be people who have not yet broken the skin by repeatedly contracting their facial muscles. The aim is to slow down this muscular activity so that the much-dreaded line does not appear etched onto the skin as a result of a continuous facial gesture. In fact, if the lines are already clearly formed, we should use higher quantities of toxin, which would mean using the classic Botox procedure.
How long does the effect of Botox last?
Botulinum toxin usually lasts for between 4 and 6 months. However, we can expect Baby Botox to last a little less as a clear relationship has been established between how long the effect of the toxin lasts and the dose administered, so the lower the dose, the shorter it lasts.
What is the botulinum toxin used for in this case?
To prevent, to a certain extent, the appearance of wrinkles. We need to be aware that the best treatment for looking fresh and rested involves treating the skin before it degrades and ages too much. If we are sure where that wrinkle will end up breaking, it is easy for a cosmetic doctor to slow down the movement a little (not completely!!) so that the natural progression towards the appearance of lines of expression will be slower and more controlled.
Do I need to do anything special before and after the treatment?
The typical instructions for any treatment with botulinum toxin: medical history taken by a specialist doctor who will determine whether this it is the most suitable treatment for you and whether it is safe, since the most important thing is for there to be no medical contraindications. In the four hours following treatment, you must follow a series of simple instructions, such as not massaging or scratching the treated area, not applying or removing make-up, not applying cream, not doing any sport etc. After those four hours, patients will be able to perform their normal daily activities.
Does the treatment leave any marks?
The toxin is the most discreet treatment we have at Clínica Áureo. While it is true that these are infiltrations, bruises are very rare. As a rule, patients therefore get up from the treatment and get on with their usual life as if nothing had happened.
As we said at the start, it is not only age that triggers the emergence of wrinkles, but also the repetitive movements of your facial muscles and the effort with which they move.
