What is Aqualyx or Intralipotherapy?

The accumulation of fat in certain areas of the body contour causes a localized increase in volume and a loss of harmony, being one of the most frequent consultations in aesthetic medicine. Localized adiposity is characterized by being resistant to diet and physical activity since it does not depend on the degree of overweight and can occur in thin people.

Aqualyx is a microgelatinous solution that kills fat cells because it has a detergent effect that causes inflammation of these cells and their subsequent destruction. The fact that we break the fat cells and simply the fat they contain will provide us with a much longer lasting effect, so that Aqualyx is considered a non-surgical solution to localized fat, having effects similar to those of liposuction. To achieve this effect, we will have to apply the right product to the fatty tissue that causes this increase in contour, performing a specific technique known as intralipotherapy. Intralipotherapy is performed by means of a fan infiltration and is quick and painless, but it requires specific learning by the doctor who applies it, it is totally necessary that the person who performs this method is trained in it and knows the process and the proceduct perfectly.

How is the Aqualyx technique performed?

One of the requirements to be able to perform this technique is that the localized fat where we are going to apply the Aqualyx has a minimum thickness of 1.5-2 centimeters, for this reason we must first perform an ultrasound measurement that will allow us to determine if it is allowed or not the intralipotherapy procedure. Also through ultrasound control we can check the results of the process.

After infiltration, it is advisable to use compression garments that are placed immediately after the procedure and are kept for 3-7 days, being fully recommended in the first 24 hours.

There is no specific number of sessions since these must be adapted to the characteristics and response of each patient, but to obtain evident results between 3 and 4 sessions may be necessary, although sometimes a single session is sufficient. The space between sessions should be about 4 weeks to allow time for the inflammatory process to disappear and the remaining fatty tissue can be assessed.

After the application of Aqualyx, redness in the area is common and some patients report mild to moderate pain, bruises may also appear. All these symptoms improve with compression garments and disappear without the need for treatment in about 48 hours. The patient can return to his normal life just after the procedure in a normal way, it is simply not advisable to carry out intense physical activity or impact on the treated area during the first week.

Aqualyx® is a solution injected into adipose tissue, employing a specific technique called intralipotherapy. It is adipocytolytic, which is to say that it does not attack fat itself, but breaks down the cells which contain it, directly attacking fat deposits, yielding a superior, longer-lasting result. A number of sessions are held a month apart, the total number depending upon the results, with a single session sometimes sufficing.
