ANTI-SNORING TREATMENT WITH A CUSTOM-MADE DENTAL SPLINT. RONFIN®

At Clínica Áureo, we offer a dental treatment to help our patients reduce snoring using a custom-made intraoral night-time device. It is a Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) designed to promote freer breathing during sleep and reduce the vibration of soft tissues that causes snoring.

WHAT IS RONFIN®?

RonFin® is a night-time anti-snoring system made up of metal-free splints, designed to gently bring the lower jaw forward and help keep the airways more open. By improving airflow, it often reduces the intensity of snoring and improves the quality of rest for both the patient and, where applicable, their partner.

WHY DO WE SNORE?

Snoring occurs when the air meets resistance as it passes through the throat during sleep. As the muscles relax, soft structures can vibrate as air flows through, producing the characteristic sound.

In some cases, snoring may be associated with a sleep-related breathing disorder such as sleep apnoea. For this reason, a professional assessment is important, especially if there are symptoms such as breathing pauses, night-time choking or gasping, marked daytime sleepiness or morning headaches.

HOW DOES THE ANTI-SNORING SPLINT WORK?

The device works by slightly advancing the lower jaw to reposition and tighten tissues in the mouth and pharynx. The aim is to:

· Reduce the vibration of soft tissues, which is a common cause of loud snoring.

· Facilitate airflow by keeping the airway more open during the night.

· Improve sleep quality and rest.

THE RONFIN® 3-SPLINT SYSTEM. PROGRESSIVE ADJUSTMENT

One of the advantages of RonFin® is that it allows progressive control of mandibular advancement through a phased system:

1. Upper (maxillary) splint: Start of treatment with a custom-made upper-arch splint.

2. Primary lower (mandibular) splint: Lower-arch splint for the start of treatment, with a slight advancement.

3. Secondary lower (mandibular) splint (not always necessary): Used at the follow-up appointment if greater advancement is required.

As it is a metal-free system, it is designed for comfortable night-time use and, depending on the case, allows gradual adaptation without forcing the joint from the first day.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?

About two-thirds of people who snore may benefit from an anti-snoring mandibular advancement device (MAD). This treatment may be a good option for people who meet the following criteria:

· They snore regularly and want a comfortable, personalised solution.

· They are looking for a non-surgical, custom-made treatment.

· They want to improve their rest and reduce the disruption caused by snoring at home.

Important: if there are signs compatible with sleep apnoea or a significant breathing problem, we will advise you and, where appropriate, recommend a specific assessment and coordination with the relevant specialist.

THIS IS HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS AT CLÍNICA ÁUREO

1. Initial assessment appointment:

We carry out a clinical interview and an oral examination to confirm whether you are a suitable candidate: dental status, gums, bite and jaw joint. We then take the necessary records using an intraoral scanner to manufacture the splint fully custom-made.

2. Fitting, adaptation and delivery appointment for the manufactured device (after 15 days):

At the next visit, approximately 2 weeks later, the RonFin® device is fitted and we check its fit and comfort.

3. Review appointment (after 15 days):

We check the patient’s adaptation and effectiveness. If necessary, progressive advancement is planned with the follow-up splint and any required check-ups are scheduled to ensure proper adaptation, resolve any possible discomfort and optimise results.
