What is Platelet-rich plasma or PRP?

Plasma injections rich in (the patient's own) autologous platelets are based on a technique which is both simple and safe, applying the platelets' restorative, healing properties, which are capable of locally releasing growth factors - small molecules which act as genuine messengers to trigger the deployment of the skin's regenerative mechanisms.

What is the procedure for platelet-rich plasma treatment?

With a simple blood withdrawal, platelets are isolated using a special kit for harvesting platelet-rich plasma. Retrieved from the patient's own blood, it is a natural product whose risks of allergy and rejection are minimized.

How many sessions do I need?

There is no specific protocol regarding the number of sessions or the amount of PRP to be injected during each session. For some patients, an average of 2-4 sessions per year is advisable, while, for others, an intensive program is carried out initially, followed by an annual maintenance phase. The decision regarding protocol depends upon medical criteria, based on aspects such as: the degree of photoaging, which alterations the patient wants to have made, and which problems they want to have fixed.

Platelet-rich plasma benefits?

The skin’s natural aging is due to a mismatch in time between destruction and renewal of its components, like collagen and certain cells. Platelet-rich plasma injections by mesotherapy, which promote the regenerative process, bring about an improvement in skin quality and a smoothing of fine facial wrinkles, accelerating and enhancing dermal regeneration. Tissue regeneration is activated by stimulating the production of new collagen, inducing division of stem cells, differentiation, and stimulation of the formation of new vessels.

Additionally, localized treatment (of nasolabial, cheek, and jaw folds; the periorbital regions; crow's feet; the upper lip; the nose; and the forehead) using a gelled PRP injection facilitates restoration of harmony and balance to the face's proportions. Its goal is not to smooth wrinkles, but to stimulate the cells to produce new collagen and all the other components of skin tissue.
