LIPOSUCTION is a procedure that allows patients to eliminate built-up fat from various areas of the body, such as the arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, calves and ankles.

This technique allows patients to eliminate deposits of accumulated fat, and serves to remodel the figure, but it is not a method for losing weight. Those who haveundergone recent surgery, or who suffer from lung or heart disease, should avoid this type of procedure.

The accumulation of body fat does not follow the same patterns in both sexes. For this reason, the procedure is approached differently in men and women. In the case of males, Liposuction tends to focus on the lateral chest areas, abdominal region, chest region, or chin. The need to conduct a liposuction on the legs and arms is less frequent.

On the other hand, COSMETIC LIPOSUCTION consists in combining the elimination of accumulated fat with reshaping the body or improving the figure.

In the case of a liposuction procedure in which the fat is concentrated in a small area, local anesthesia combined with sedation is employed. If the area to be treated is quite extensive, given the procedure could last between one and three hours, general anesthesia is more appropriate.

The scars generated by this type of surgery are small, and are usually located in areas of the body where they are not easily noticed.

The results are gradually obtained over one to two months, with the final result becoming clearly visible within up to six months.

Postoperative recovery requires the use of a girdle for one month. In addition, there may be visible bruising after the surgery, which can last up to ten days.

The return to a normal working life is usually possible three to seven days after the procedure, depending on the individual patient, and it is advisable not to make any kind of effort during the first two weeks.

This procedure is not appropriate for treating cellulite, as this concerns more superficial layers of the skin. It is also not intended as a means for losing weight; in fact, the ideal patient is one who already possesses a proper body mass index.
