I think we can all agree that any Aesthetic medicine treatment will go hand in hand with skin treatment. We cannot expect to look healthy and rested if we don´t look after our skin and that´s why it is particularly important to take this into account when performing any cosmetic or rejuvenating procedures.

The skin is made up of 3 layers, the most superficial one has a layer of dead cells called stratum corneum (you´ve probably heard about it), which protects the skin's moisture barrier by preventing our body water to evaporate and keeping our skin hydrated, as well as contributing to its normal functioning. The middle layer is called Dermis (you've probably heard about it too), and it is the one that provides the skin with elasticity and resistance whilst keeping it youthful in appearance. And how does it work? The skin is a fascinating organ: its dermal layer is made up of fibers, yes, imagine a web of very thin threads pulling the skin back to maintain the skin's structure. These threads are made of collagen (responsible for the skin's resistance) and of elastin (responsible for its elasticity).

When we age or because of the aggressions the skin suffers (solar radiation, toxins, stress, lack of sleep, etc.) several things happen to our skin. On one hand, that the layer of dead cells loses its capacity to act as a barrier for water loss which will in turn cause a progressive dehydration. On the other, that the elastin and collagen fibers break down and the skin cells stop producing them which causes the skin to lose its elasticity and firmness due to all the broken and disorganized fibers.

Therefore, our two aims when it comes to repairing, restoring, and beautifying the skin will be hydration and restoring the collagen and the elastin. So now let me tell you all about Skin boosters.

What is SKINBOOSTERS?

Skinboosters is a hyaluronic acid, but it does not have the function of filling (it is not a proper filler) but it seeks, as its name suggests, to enhance the skin (skin enhancer). And how does it work? The ability of hyaluronic acid to capture water is known but in the case of our Skinboosters (Restylane Vital) it is able to draw and hold 5 times its own weight in water, which means that each Vital molecule increases the water capture by 5. Can you imagine the incredible hydrating power that those molecules on our skin will have? But the best thing is (and this I find fascinating) that through its NASHA® technology it is able to stimulate the skin cells responsible for producing elastin and collagen by disturbing and pushing the cells to defend themselves and thus regenerate the skin structure when trying to repair it.
