Changing a dietary habit is easy if you know how. Do we have good dietary habits?
Cati reached out to Clínica Áureo in November 2014, wearing a sad smile when she came to see us; her problem was not just the 20 extra kilos which caused her to consult us, but rather the way she felt: Cati was trapped in a body that was not hers, a body in which she did not recognize herself and a body that was the cause of the feeling of dissatisfaction that she had been living with for a while.
From the beginning we saw that Cati would be willing to do anything that we suggested: she did not merely want to solve the problem of her extra weight, but she had to do it, and she was a woman with the strength necessary to tackle her weaknesses and confront them without fear. We saw from the start that she was a brave woman.
So where was the problem? It was in her lifestyle, her diet and her habits. Cati did not only have to lose 20 kilos, she had to change her life! She had to include and integrate new habits into her daily life, new habits that she would not even have considered until that moment. Somebody once said that it is easier to change your political ideology or favorite soccer team than your dietary habits, and I remember that we told Cati this, but she continued smiling and was willing to break out of this trap.
And that’s how it happened: over the course of nine months, the duration of our nutrition and dietetics treatment, we worked together to learn new habits: eating only what our body needs, eating an equal amount of food from all the food groups, drinking water, abandoning toxins and unhealthy products, exercising… and making sure that all of this would form a part of our new life in a holistic and natural manner. The weight loss brought a smile to Cati’s face. It was not always easy, and it was not just fun and games, but we knew that we were doing good work, and we went slowly because we knew that we would go far.
Last week, Cati came to Clínica Áureo for her final consultation, during which we were able to discharge her given her completion of the previously set objectives. There are clearly set guidelines to follow now that she is no longer under our supervision, and she knows them best, since she has been learning about them during these past 9 months. Both sides were highly satisfied to have achieved the set goal, which made this consultation a very emotional moment. Cati has a new life thanks to her new habits and because she is no longer the same person that asked us for help; but most importantly, she wears a new smile, a real one. And we have made a new friend; thank you Cati for your trust, but most of all, thank you for being you: you are an exceptional woman!
