For a long time now, men have overcome the myth that aesthetic medicine is just for women, and they also seek to extend and improve their youthful, healthy appearance with different treatments given by professionals in this field. However, when doing so we can assure that men are not the same as women.
Yes, there are some differences. We cannot treat men in exactly the same way as women when correcting the physical flaws which appear due to aging. Men’s skin is usually much thicker and heavier, so flaws commonly appear as a result of the flaccidity that is caused by the skin’s own weight.
Some of these flaws include:
A nasolabial furrow more marked by a wrinkle due to the sagging of tissues, which will also lead to accentuated bags under the eyes as a result of drooping by the fatty capsule which lies right under these circles. In such cases, we cannot treat the wrinkle directly, but instead we attempt to restore the lost volume in the middle third of the face by working on the flaccid skin rather than the wrinkle itself.
Darker, more clearly marked circles under the eyes are also more commonplace among men. We must try to recover a well-rested appearance for the eyes without adding volume to the area to avoid giving the patient a more feminine look. We use filler fluids with lower cross-linking so that this rounded area is not overly highlighted. It must never be forgotten that the area to be brought out the most on men lies along the jaw line, if we want to achieve a more masculine look.
Dehydrated, weathered skin is common among men, who are not as accustomed to taking care of their skin with cosmetics. Often proper nutrition and deep moisturizing of this skin through injection of the right product will restore a healthy appearance to the face.
Deep furrows can form on the forehead or brow because of the greater strength in the facial muscles among male patients. They are easily treated with infiltrations but always trying to attenuate and not eliminate these wrinkles, we must think that a completely smooth forehead will give a very strange appearance to a man and that, in addition, having some slight wrinkles always gives a sensation of greater poise and masculinity.
At Clínica Áureo, we always bear in mind that men usually seek procedures that will allow them to get back to their work and social life quickly, so effective treatments which are not very incisive are required to minimize side-effects (such as bruising) to the greatest extent possible.
Another treatment sought out by men as a group is for excessive perspiration, which is referred to medically as hyperhydrosis. As a rule, they have a greater tendency to sweat, with all of the trouble that this causes. Aesthetic Medicine provides a very simple treatment which, though not permanent, can solve this problem for periods of time of considerable length.
Last of all, we could not fail to mention medical laser hair removal. Without a doubt, males have more body hair, and it is increasingly common for them to seek permanent hair removal to make that hair go away, as it may be unpleasant for aesthetic, athletic and/or hygienic reasons.
These are the most common treatments in aesthetic medicine for men, but many more are available. Here at Clínica Áureo, if you have any flaws that you are not happy about, we advise you to contact us, and we will take a look to determine what treatment is the most advisable for you. Remember, your first visit is free.
